Exercise and Weight loss? Strength training helps you to reduce body fat. Which type of strength training is better for weight loss, static or dynamic?

Exercise for Weight loss.

There are three types of people: those ones who exercise and diet and get better, those ones who stay the same and those ones who  get worse. Which one are you?

Does Exercise help you lose weight?

Lately it has been a lot of buzz regarding an article in Time Magazine “Why Exercise won’t make you thin” and Here we go again. Does exercise help you lose weight? I understand from a consumer point of view you may find it interesting but from a professional point of view it makes no sense. Exercise helps you with weight loss. Exercise burns calories and it will help you with weight loss. However as I will explain below there are different types of exercise, those ones that makes your body move (dynamic)and the ones that you train without moving (static)

Make sense and don’t challenge the Gods

What doesn’t help you is increasing your calories intake. For example if you spent 45 minutes in the treadmill and burnt 600 calories would you like to eat a 500 calorie muffin or a 400 calories smoothie just after? I don’t think so.

Different types of Exercises: Dynamic or Static

I would agree to a certain extent that not every exercise is the same. It would not be the same to do an aerobic exercise routine than a walking or a strength training routine. There are two types of exercise: one that is isometric (no motion) and one is dynamic (repetitive motion). Depending on the type of strength training, there are significant differences on your muscles, circulation or metabolism. The dynamic training improves muscle endurance that is associated to greater benefits such as widens your blood vessels forcing your heart to pump more blood, it burns more calories and improves cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Super Body, Super Brain a new approach incorporating balance and coordination with strength training

What i propose is that you can combine an aerobic routine with a strength training program. How do you do you that? Pick a strength training movement, add balance and coordination, involve many muscle groups at once and then perform high repetitions with low weights. The result is that you will be getting leaner and stronger than ever.

What is the difference between doing a program for weight loss based in strength training or cardiovascular exercise.

Really simple many people in order to drop weight fast they reduce dramatically their calorie intake at the time they increase the cardiovascular exercise, making the body completely confused since your body loves gradual and not radical change.

When you add strength training and you keep burning those calories, you will find out that not only you have a stronger and leaner body but also you will reduce your body fat. This is extremely important because if you reduce your body fat your body weight will not fluctuate as much. If you just do cardio and stop eating you will enter what is called the “YO-YO DIET”

Note: Strength training is the most widely researched exercise program.
