September 27, 2010

Brain body connection: Source-

William Penfield (January 26, 1891 – April 5, 1976) was an astounding Neuroscientist who was obsessed in showing the link between the brain and the body. So he started observing the part of the brain called the motor cortex and started observing how every single part of your body is represented in this powerful section of the brain that controls voluntary physical movements. This left him to create Brain Maps. He represented sensory and motor cortices of the brain showing their connections to the various limbs and organs of the body.
These maps are still used today. This work contributed a great deal to understanding the lateralization of brain function.
