October 12th is the Official National Holiday in Spain. Christopher  Columbus (c. 31 October 1451 – 20 May 1506) was an incredible human being and a powerful visionary. Italian born sailor he made his dream come true: he convinced the Spanish Crown to finance his dream journey: he forecasted that a westward species route from Iberia to the Indies would be much shorter than the crowed trade route through Arabia. If true, this would allow Spain to make tons of money and increase its dominant position into the spice trade
Following his strategy, he instead landed within the Caribbean Islands at an island he named San Salvador (Saint Savior). Mistaking the vast territory he encountered for Asia, he decided to name the inhabitants as “indios” (“Indians”). Between 1492 and 1503, Columbus embarked in four round-trip voyages between Spain and the Americas, all of them under the unique sponsorship of the Crown of Castile. Thank you Columbus for your contribution, Have a great Columbus day!
